INDIANAPOLIS (Oct. 19, 2023) – Today, Julie Manning Magid, vice dean of the Indiana University Kelley School of Business Indianapolis and executive and academic director of the Tobias Leadership Center, was named a 2023 Women of Influence by the Indianapolis Business Journal (IBJ). IBJ recognizes women who have risen to the highest levels of business, the arts, and community and public service in central Indiana.
Magid is the first vice dean of the Kelley School’s urban campus in its nearly 50-year history. She is responsible for all academic, research, and service operations in Indianapolis and is successfully positioning the school to influence economic growth and community engagement throughout the region and state.
“Julie is a changemaker in a variety of areas and recognizes that businesses play a huge role in the advancement of society,” said Ash Soni, dean of the Kelley School of Business in Bloomington and Indianapolis and The Sungkyunkwan Professor. “She’s been a key leader in academics and research. She is dedicated to equity and inclusion, and she champions the Kelley School’s role as a committed partner with Indiana businesses. She’s very deserving of this honor, and we’re fortunate to have her leadership and vision as Kelley forges a new future with IU Indianapolis.”
As vice dean, Magid oversees a school with internationally-recognized research faculty, undergraduate and graduate programs, including the top ranked part-time MBA program in the state and a unique physician-only MBA program. She leads 65 full-time and numerous community-based part-time faculty members, who teach and mentor more than 1,400 students across five major programs. This is the highest number of research-active faculty in more than two decades, and they contribute directly to emerging trends that address business needs.
Since 2016, Magid has served as the executive and academic director of the Indiana University Tobias Leadership Center. Through research and transformative experiences that bridge the gap between knowledge and practice, the center develops leaders who improve their organizations, communities, and the quality of life for those around them. The Tobias Fellows is a premier executive leadership program for experienced leaders from around the country. The center also contributes to leadership research through its oral history program and the work of a Scholar in Residence and Executive in Residence.
Magid was selected by IU President Pamela Whitten to co-chair a task force as part of Vision 2024, which is the strategic realignment of IU and Purdue in Indianapolis.
At Kelley, Magid is an award-winning professor who has taught in undergraduate, MBA, and online programs. Her areas of expertise include leadership development, organizational governance and workplace environment. She served as editor-in-chief of the American Business Law Journal and is the author of numerous scholarly articles and book chapters focused on public policy related to healthcare, gender, innovation, and privacy. Magid received a J.D. from the University of Michigan Law School and an A.B. from Georgetown University.
