INDIANAPOLIS – David A. Ricks, chairman and CEO of Eli Lilly and Company, led a virtual discussion focused on creating an inclusive workplace during an October 9th presentation.
Ricks’ address was part of the Somerset CPAs and Advisors Executive Leadership Lecture Series hosted by the Physician MBA Program at the Kelley School of Business.
He discussed what it takes to be an inclusive leader and why organizations that are more diverse are more successful.
“To solve some of the toughest challenges in medicine, we need the best people with the best, most creative ideas,” Ricks says on the Lilly website. “We embrace our differences, and it’s driving business success.”
“We offer this lecture as part of our physician-only MBA because leading an effective team is just one of the critical principles physicians need to direct the future of healthcare. By integrating business knowledge and the understanding of building an inclusive culture, MBA-trained physician leaders will be better equipped to change healthcare for the better,” said Christopher O.L.H. Porter, professor of management and chair of the Physician MBA Program.
Ricks has worked for Lilly for more than 20 years, most recently serving as president of Lilly Bio-Medicines before he was elected chairman of the board in 2017. He earned his Bachelor of Science from Purdue University and his MBA from the Kelley School of Business in 1996.
Held twice annually, the Somerset CPAs and Advisors Executive Leadership Lecture Series is supported by gifts from Somerset CPAs and Advisors and the Kelley Physician MBA Class of 2016. These talks feature prominent experts who address some of the most pressing issues in healthcare today.
