INDIANAPOLIS – The IU Kelley School of Business on the IUPUI campus welcomes two new faculty members this fall.
“Our new faculty bring with them a variety of expertise and passions that will enhance the school’s scholarship and teaching,” said Ken Carow, executive associate dean for faculty and research and professor of finance at the Kelley School. “They build on the passion of Kelley faculty to engage students in participatory learning, leading from moment to momentum. Their excellence ensures Kelley will continue to be recognized as a top business school providing quality graduate and undergraduate student experiences.”
Kevin Yancey joins the Kelley School as a lecturer in accounting. Yancey is a certified internal auditor who most recently worked as the director of accounting and budgeting for the IU School of Dentistry on the IUPUI campus.
He has taught internal auditing and corporate governance for Kelley since 2012. He also taught various business and accounting courses at IU South Bend from 2000 to 2007. His areas of expertise include audit, cost and managerial accounting.
Before his most recent role with the School of Dentistry, Yancey worked as assistant audit director and compliance auditor for IU’s internal audit department. He has also held audit and accounting positions at 1 st Source Bank, CTS Corporation, National Steel Company and Inland Steel Company. Yancey received his MBA from Loyola University in Chicago.
“When teaching, I have the feeling that I’m passing on the knowledge I’ve acquired over the years, both through book learning and practical experience,” said Yancey. “If I can help students understand and learn the subjects successfully, I feel they will be more employable in their future careers. I look forward to this new opportunity that the Kelley School has given me.”
Haewon Yoon joins the Kelley School as an assistant professor of marketing. He most recently worked at Boston College as a postdoctoral researcher at the Carroll School of Management and at the Boston University Questrom School of Business.
Yoon received his PhD in psychology from Rutgers University-New Brunswick. He received his MS in cognitive science and his BA and BBA in psychology and business administration from Yonsei University in South Korea.
During his master’s and doctoral studies, Yoon became passionate about one of his research interests: intertemporal choice. He also studies consumer financial decision making and debiasing intervention.
Yoon has published in the Korean Journal of Consumer and Advertising Psychology, Journal of the American Medical Association, Psychological Science, Experiential and Clinical Psychopharmacology, Policy Insights from the Behavioral and Brain Sciences and Journal of Behavioral Decision Making. One of Yoon’s current research projects considers college loans and how students consider the cost of college relative to long-term financial returns.
“I was attracted to the interdisciplinary environment at the Kelley School of Business,” said Yoon. “My previous and current research bridges different areas, such as psychology, marketing, accounting and finance. This interdisciplinary approach can inspire interesting research ideas, but the collaboration across different departments is challenging. Here at the Kelley School, however, I can meet faculty members from different areas across the hallway (literally) and exchange research ideas on a daily basis. I hope this interdisciplinary environment will further expedite my research process.”
Yoon will teach marketing research methods and introduction to marketing this fall.
