A senior accounting and finance student at the IU Kelley School of Business Indianapolis has been named the 2010 INCPAS Outstanding Accounting Major for IUPUI.
J.P. Felter was notified recently of his selection by the accounting faculty at Kelley Indianapolis. Faculty member John Hassell has worked closely with Felter during his time at Kelley and was one of the nominating professors.
“J.P. is an excellent student, and he has been active in representing Kelley Indianapolis in a variety of activities, including being a member of the 2010 first-place team in the INCPAS Case Team Competition,” Hassell said.
Felter was one of four Kelley Indianapolis students to earn the school’s first top award at the annual INCPAS Case Team Competition. The team went up against groups from several strong accounting programs at other Indiana universities.
“I am truly honored to be recognized by an accounting faculty that I hold in such high esteem,” Felter said of his selection. “Members of our accounting faculty at the Kelley School have provided me with a wealth of opportunities both inside and outside the classroom to develop academically, intellectually and professionally.”
Felter is expected to graduate with the two undergraduate degrees at the end of this year before completing an independent study internship next spring with a regional accounting firm. He then intends to sit for the CPA exam. Felter also will represent Kelley Indianapolis this summer at its second annual study abroad trip to Strasbourg, France.
He hopes to begin his professional career at a public accounting firm specializing in audit and assurance services, he said.
Felter will be honored this month at the annual Kelley Scholarships and Awards Breakfast, the first time this award has been recognized at the event.
Given annually, the Outstanding Accounting Major Award recognizes students for outstanding leadership and academic achievements. Students are evaluated based upon his/her grade point average, proficiency in English, math and speech, willingness to accept responsibility, moral character and extra-curricular activities.
The INCPAS winners this year represent 29 Indiana colleges and include four recipients from the Indianapolis area.
