INDIANAPOLIS – Recently, the Randall L. Tobias Center for Leadership at Indiana University welcomed Robin Fleming as its second Executive in Residence.
Fleming has more than 35 years of leadership experience including 11 years in executive roles delivering B2B SaaS and mobile applications for Fortune 100 companies. Her consulting firm, Evolv Tech, provides advisory and fractional services to business leaders, startup founders, CEOs, corporate innovation teams, VCs and startup studios.
Fleming’s background includes creating eCommerce and consumer internet marketplaces for Match.com and Angie’s List and enterprise B2B SaaS and Cloud platforms for Teradata. Fleming also co-founded and launched an award winning B2B startup, Anvl, in partnership with Cummins and High Alpha Venture Studio. She completed the Tobias Fellows Program in 2016 and is active with the Tobias Leadership Network.
“Robin is an enormously successful industry leader, and her insights not only influence our Fellows but also help the Tobias Leadership Center build connections that can grow the leadership capacity of organizations more broadly,” said Julie Manning Magid, executive associate dean of the Kelley School of Business in Indianapolis and executive and academic director of the Tobias Leadership Center. “Robin is a dynamic, passionate leader who shares the values of the center: integrity, inclusion, innovation and impact. Her strategic executive leadership will provide a unique perspective to the Fellows and others engaged with the Tobias Leadership Center.”
The Executive in Residence (EIR) is a practicing executive and former Tobias Fellow who works with the Tobias Leadership Center on the practical applications of leadership and leadership studies, bridging the gap between practice and scholarship. The EIR develops and furthers connections with leaders to expand the impact of the center and Tobias Fellows Program. Additionally, they work with faculty, staff and Fellows to provide mentoring, business insights and hands-on support for leadership programs.
“As a Tobias Fellows alumna, I can attest to the robust curriculum and innovative experience the year-long Fellows program provides,” Fleming said. “The personal leadership style assessment, hands-on experiences, real-world exercises and expert coaching will help these professionals build a foundation for on-going leadership introspection and improvements.”
Among the initiatives Fleming will drive during her residency is establishing a Tobias Fellows Advisory Board to bring together a diverse set of leaders to support the program’s mission and strategic initiatives. The board, which will be comprised of Tobias Leadership Network members, will provide guidance and identify annual objectives.
For Fleming, networking is the program’s greatest asset. “A distinctive outcome of the Tobias Fellows Program is the friendships that are forged from working collaboratively with peers in a safe environment – for this, I am deeply grateful. As the Executive in Residence, I’m excited to be back engaged with the Fellows Program in this hands-on role.”
In addition to developing the Tobias Fellows Advisory Board, Fleming will use her expertise to engage in a strategic planning process for the Fellows Program. “I’m passionate about innovation and continuous improvement, so I’m excited to be working with this talented team on the next phase of growth for the Fellows Program. There are exciting initiatives in the works!”
The inaugural EIR, Neal Rothermel, co-founder of the healthcare education company VMS BioMarketing, advanced the program through research, student engagement and program curriculum. Along with supporting Kelley School faculty and counseling undergraduate student teams working on I-Core capstone projects, he helped identify five program competencies important for curriculum mapping process, envisioned resources to build program awareness and authored three white papers.
