The Kelley School of Business at IUPUI Kappa Sigma Chapter of Delta Sigma Pi (DSP) was awarded the 2020 Regional Outstanding Development Award for a Collegiate Chapter by the national Delta Sigma Pi Fraternity.
According to the national Fraternity, the award “is presented on an annual basis to the collegiate chapter of Delta Sigma Pi that plans and implements the most effective and comprehensive program of scholastic development as evidenced by the academic achievement of its members.”
The chapter has also been recognized as a Chapter of Excellence, the highest ranking a collegiate chapter can earn. This is the chapter’s fifth year receiving this designation. These recognitions add to a rich history of the chapter being awarded for their efforts in community service, academic excellence and professional development, both by the national fraternity and on the IUPUI campus.
“Last year, our DSP chapter was named top student led organization on the IUPUI campus,” said Judith Wright, chapter advisor and assistant clinical professor of business law. “There are all kinds of organizations that are student-led across the campus like Regatta, Jagathon, and SOAR. We’re so proud that our chapter was named the top student-led organization.”
Kelley professor Judith Wright awarded the Chapter Advisor of the Year award
In addition to the chapter recognitions, Chapter Advisor Judith Wright was named Advisor of the Year from the national fraternity.
“As an executive board, we choose which awards to apply for. We nominated Professor Wright for advisor of the year because a lot of brothers see her as a role model,” said Hanna Brown, BS’21, “She is our go-to person for both personal and professional situations, and is also first to help us promote and cheer on DSP and help with recruitment.”
Delta Sigma Pi at Kelley IUPUI
Delta Sigma Pi s a co-ed business fraternity that seeks to attract bright and ambitious business students. DSP focuses on three main areas of professional and personal growth: professional development, community service and brotherhood. Every semester, members plan and organize events to contribute to the IUPUI community. Last year, the chapter logged more than 300 hours of community service.
In addition, the chapter encourages one another academically, provides networking opportunities, and travels to national fraternity events. While current Kelleys can express interest and pledge to the fraternity at any point in the college journey, the chapter focuses on recruitment during freshman and sophomore years.
“DSP has given me both personal and professional growth opportunities.” said Brown, who will turn over her role of president to a new elected leader in the spring. “Personally, I have found my family and home away from home. Professionally, as president, I have learned how essential empathy is to good leadership.”
“In DSP, we’re all brothers. It has an equalizing effect on things,” added Professor Wright. “The minute the pledge class comes in, they are connected with an older brother and mentoring begins. It serves as both a connection point for our new members, and leadership opportunity for the big brother.”
The fraternity recently added sixteen new brothers via virtual ceremony, bringing their active member status to sixty-one. To learn more about the chapter and get in touch, visit https://www.deltasigmapi-kappasigmachapter.com/.
