AUGUST 2020 – The Indiana University Kelley School of Business at IUPUI welcomes two new faculty members this fall.
Sara Coers joins the faculty as a visiting lecturer in real estate and as the associate director of the IU Center for Real Estate Studies. Coers will lead the IU real estate program’s efforts on IUPUI’s campus. She has 15 years of experience in commercial real estate appraisal, with a specialty in expert witness testimony. Coers most recently served as senior vice president at Pillar Valuation Group, Inc., and before that, was the managing director at Valbridge Property Advisors.
Coers received her MAI designation from the Appraisal Institute in 2009, she holds her certified general real estate appraiser license in Indiana, and she received her master’s in technical and scientific communication from Miami University in Ohio. She was an instructor and program vice chair for the Institute for Professionals in Taxation’s Real Property Tax School from 2013-2018, and she was named Instructor of the Year in 2015. Coers has spent time as an adjunct professor at the University of Indianapolis and has worked with real estate classes through the Kelley School since 2015.
“As the first full-time Kelley faculty member in real estate based at IUPUI, I am most looking forward to bringing greater opportunities in real estate to Kelley Indianapolis students. I’m excited about increasing the quantity and quality of our internship opportunities in real estate, growing the Real Estate Club, working on our Commercial Real Estate Workshop, and building on relationships between IUPUI and real estate companies in Indianapolis,” said Coers. “Real estate can open doors to new opportunities and put students one step ahead. I can’t wait to get started.”
“Adding to our program at IUPUI with a full-time faculty member like Sara will be transformative toward Kelley IUPUI better serving Indianapolis’ outstanding commercial real estate industry,” said Doug McCoy, director of the IU Center for Real Estate Studies. “Sara brings to the program experience, technical expertise, local relationships, and a passion for teaching students about commercial real estate.”
Brian Vander Schee joins the faculty as a visiting clinical assistant professor of marketing. Vander Schee will teach the I-Core marketing course, marketing analytics and digital marketing. His areas of expertise are digital marketing, social media, branding, consumer engagement, online complimenting behavior and innovations in marketing education. He has published his research in Journal of Research in Interactive Marketing, Journal for Marketing of Higher Education, Journal of Marketing Education, Journal of Education for Business and Journal of the Academy of Business Education, among others.
Vander Schee will receive his DBA in marketing from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater in December, and he also received his PhD in higher education administration from the University of Connecticut. He has an MBA from Northcentral University in Arizona and an MA in professional counseling from Liberty University. Before coming to Kelley, Vander Schee worked at Aurora University in Illinois as a professor of marketing. He also spent time on the administration side in enrollment as Vice President for Enrollment Management at Toccoa Falls College in Georgia and Finlandia University in Michigan.
Vander Schee has received national teaching and research awards, including the American Marketing Association’s (AMA) Summer Educators’ Conference Best Paper Award in Marketing Education and Teaching, the Marketing Management Association’s (MMA) Spring Conference Marketing Education Track Best Paper Award and the AMS Outstanding Marketing Teacher and SMA Distinguished Teacher Awards. Vander Schee served as editor of Marketing Education Review and special issues editor of the Journal for Advancement of Marketing Education. He is a member of a number of professional organizations and currently serves as the executive director for the Marketing Management Association, and is a former Collegiate Chapters Council President at the American Marketing Association.

I am really looking forward to the opportunity to work with both the faculty and students.”
