The Indiana University Kelley School of Business at IUPUI is now a University Affiliation Program (UAP) participant through the CFA Institute, which is the premier global association for investment management professionals.
This program helps to better position students in both the Indianapolis undergraduate program and the Evening MBA Program who hope to obtain the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation. The CFA charter is the most respected and recognized investment credential in the world.
Through this affiliation, the Kelley School at IUPUI now has 11 scholarships available to students looking to take the CFA exams. Finance students will also now have complimentary access to sample exams and other materials.
The CFA credential is held by more than 160,000 professionals around the world. To receive the credential, candidates must pass three exams and obtain four years of professional work experience in the investment decision-making process.
“We are proud to partner with the CFA Institute to offer this opportunity for our students. The CFA credential demonstrates professional knowledge and high standards of ethics. This partnership is an example of how the Kelley School prepares students for careers in the investment industry and is a testament to the quality of our programs,” said Ken Carow, CFA and executive associate dean of faculty and research and professor of finance at the Kelley School of Business on IUPUI’s campus.
“This is a particularly important partnership for our finance students,” said Glen Larsen, CFA and professor of finance. “Having the opportunity to pursue this premiere designation in the investment management field will give students an edge when interviewing for jobs in the investment profession. The very fact that they’ve entered into this program sets them apart from other job candidates and means a lot to employers, particularly to investment management firms.”
“I first came across the CFA designation during a presentation by a CFA charterholder at the London Stock Exchange on a study abroad trip to the UK,” said Julie Pettypool, BS’20. “The charterholder knew so much about the markets and sparked my interest in the CFA credential. This new partnership between the Kelley School at IUPUI and the CFA Institute is a tremendous opportunity to gain a greater understanding of investment management and have more doors opened for me and other students. I am excited about the opportunity to gain knowledge like the charterholder had at the London Stock Exchange.”
This designation also means that the Kelley School at IUPUI embeds a significant portion of the CFA Program Candidate Body of Knowledge (CBOK) topics—including the Code of Ethics and Standards of Professional Conduct—into the curriculum.
More than 250 schools across the Americas are part of the CFA Institute University Affiliation Program. More than 300 others are represented from across the globe.
Kelley Indianapolis undergraduate students participated this year in the first annual CFA Institute Research Challenge in Indianapolis, taking first place and advancing to the Americas regional competition in New York.
Students looking to apply for the CFA Institute student scholarship have until February 1, 2020 to apply for the June 2020 exam. The scholarship covers the program enrollment fee, and the registration fee is reduced. For more information on the scholarship, head to the CFA Institute website here and email Professor Glen Larsen at glarsen@iupui.edu.
