Networking is a term that’s consistently preached to students at Kelley Indianapolis. After all, Kelley Indianapolis is located in the twelfth largest city in the country and surrounded by a number of Fortune 500 companies.
Why is this important?
Students must find a way to separate themselves and stand out to employers.
How can one do that?
It’s simple: student organizations.
Student organizations at Kelley Indianapolis offer networking opportunities among students, faculty, and employers. The Operations and Supply Chain Management Organization (OSCM) attracts new members because of their ability to bring in businesses representatives to speak to students.
“We bring in speakers from an array of business sectors, and they give us insight about how supply chain management operates within the different industries,” said Victoria Sefcsik, BS’18, and president of OSCM. “I’ve had companies tell me they are looking to hire Kelleys, and they’ll use our meetings to recruit.”
“One of the great benefits of being in the OSCM organization is the many networking opportunities you’ll experience,” Sefcsik explained.
“Representatives from J.B. Hunt, a Fortune 500 transportation company located here in Indianapolis, visited our group. In fact, I was able to network with them, and ultimately, I landed an internship with the company.”
Not only will the group present guest speakers on a regular basis, but they also take company tours, most recently at Cummins in Columbus, IN. It’s a great way for students to see the different sectors they can work in, and ultimately, choose their career path.
Owen Davies, BS’18, chair of special projects for OSCM, joined the group to network, but to also meet new like-minded people.
“My favorite part of the organization is the relaxed networking opportunities. We tour facilities and have professionals come talk to us. You can ask questions, talk on an even playing field, and build a relationship with these people without worrying about procedures and rules,” Davies added.
