I love my group! Aside from being great people, I really appreciate their desire to have things done ahead of schedule, to work in the most efficient manner possible, and to really understand the material we are working through. It’s definitely helped minimize stress as we’ve worked on our case studies, assignments, and first two deliverables together.
The hardest thing for me has been readjusting to an “all-academic” class schedule. In the spring, I had mostly studio art classes, where the way you learn (and demonstrate what you’ve learned) is quite different than the more traditional “academic” classes. In retrospect, I shouldn’t have been surprised, but I have never had more course reading than I do this semester! Although these classes aren’t necessarily more hours of work than studio art classes, it is a very different kind of work – and it took me a few weeks to adjust. I’m a visual learner, and I’ve learned that keeping up with textbook reading saves time I would later spend studying – but keeping up with the text and corresponding assignments for five (I-Core + art history) courses, is a lot more than I’ve been used to so far in college!
The best thing about I-Core so far is seeing how many of the different things we are learning this semester (as well as things in previous classes) come together to make “business” work. Gaining a more holistic view gives new weight to other classes which focus on one particular aspect of business. (Plus, for the first time, I’m realizing the value of my AP Statistics class from high school!)
It has been a very busy first eight weeks of the semester, so I’m thankful fall break is here to offer a bit of time to rest, recharge, and get caught up on other areas of life. The rest of the semester will be here soon enough; it may be a cliché, but time really does seem to fly!
