INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.—Kacy Allgood (BS ’03) has been named the 2012 Sewell Fund Learning Partnership Fellow. Allgood, who has a master’s degree in library science and a B.S. in business from the IU Kelley School of Business Indianapolis, both at IUPUI, is a certified emergency medical technician. She received her Emergency Medical Technician Certification from Decatur Township Fire Department in Indianapolis. Recently, she worked as a reference informationist at the IU School of Medicine Library where she was responsible for researching information requests for faculty and students.
Allgood hopes to use this fellowship to research the possibility of creating advanced practice paramedic programs for Marion and surrounding counties and translate her research into cost effective, quality emergency health services in the community. The Sewell Fund Learning Partnership is funded by the Grace and Harold Sewell Memorial Fund for medical and health care librarians. The fund’s mission is to increase librarians’ identification with medical, pharmaceutical and health care professionals through immersion in the health care environment. The IU School of Medicine Department of Emergency Medicine was awarded the Learning Partnership grant through the Sewell Fund to support Allgood’s work with the Indianapolis Emergency Medical Services, the Indiana Emergency Medical Services for Children, the IU School of Medicine and MESH, a non-profit, public-private partnership that enables health care providers to respond to emergency events and remain viable through recovery.
