The American Institute of CPAs recently selected an alumnus of the Kelley School of Business graduate accounting program to participate in its 2011 Leadership Academy, an annual honor given to just 30 people nationwide.
Dominique Kammogne, a 2008 graduate of the Master’s of Science in Accounting program at Kelley Indianapolis, learned he was selected for the prestigious Leadership Academy a few weeks ago. Since then, the accountant at Cargill, Inc., has been excited to discover the benefits of networking with true leaders in the accounting industry.
“I consider it an honor and privilege to be given the opportunity to further develop my leadership skills, have an impact on the accounting profession and represent my professional organization at the Leadership Academy,” he said.
The Leadership Academy consists of emerging leaders (25-35 years old) in various accounting fields who are selected following a strenuous application process. Through conference and training seminars, the AICPA strives to enhance leadership competencies for accountants, to help them better understand the impact of positive leadership and to invest time and education into young leaders in the industry.
At the conclusion of the Academy, each participant is allowed to sit on a committee that examines a specific aspect of the accounting field and makes impactful recommendations. In addition, participants are surrounded by powerful leaders of the future and benefit greatly from the growth of this network.
Kammogne will be among the latest Leadership Academy class to attend the 2011 conference in October in North Carolina.
“This will give me a chance to implement leadership in action and build a network of highly motivated colleagues,” said Kammogne, who was born in Cameroon. “While there, I hope to learn how to better motivate those around me, improve my leadership style and become more knowledgeable about different types of leadership.”
Kammogne credited his work ethic and respect for others to his upbringing as one of several siblings in Cameroon. He also described himself as “a proud Kelley alumnus,” and he reflected on the Kelley experience as one reason he was able to achieve such a distinction so early in his career.
“Kelley has provided me with accounting knowledge that I leverage on a daily basis,” he said. “In a lot of ways, where I am today professionally and personally has been impacted by the Kelley School of Business.
“Kelley will put you at the door of endless opportunity, but it’s up to you to own your career and take advantage of everything Kelley has to offer,” he added.
